Can Microcement Be Used on Kitchen Countertops?

Yes, with the right sealer and sensible use. Colortale's micro cement can be applied to walls, floors, countertops, stairs and furniture, and is waterproof when sealed properly. On a counter the sealer does the hard work: it keeps out water, oil and stains. It gives a seamless, handmade surface with no joints. It is not as hard as granite or quartz, so it needs a little more care.

How Does It Handle Indian Cooking?

Well, if spills are wiped promptly. Turmeric, oil, tea and tomato are the main risks. A properly sealed surface lets you wipe them off, but they can mark if they sit for hours or if the sealer is worn. Lemon, vinegar and tamarind are acidic and can etch the surface, so wipe them up straight away.

  • Use chopping boards; do not cut directly on the counter.
  • Use trivets for hot pans, tawas and pressure cookers.
  • Clean with a pH-neutral cleaner, never acidic or abrasive products. See microcement maintenance.

Backsplash and Kitchen Floor

A backsplash is one of the easiest kitchen uses because it takes splashes, not knocks. Taking the same finish from counter to wall avoids grout lines behind the hob, which are hard to keep clean. Microcement floors give a continuous look through an open-plan kitchen; on a floor, choose a mid tone and ask about the sealer and grip for your kitchen.

Can Microcement Go Over an Existing Counter?

Often yes, if the base is stable and well prepared. Microcement is thin and bonds to tiles, concrete and wood after preparation, so old tiled or concrete counters can be refreshed without demolition. Edges, sink cut-outs and corners need skilled detailing. Read micro cement over existing tiles and the microcement application process.
