Bathroom Walls Without Tiles: Your Seamless Options

Colortale Design Studio23 October 2026

You can finish bathroom walls, including showers, without tiles. Colortale offers five seamless finishes it describes for wet areas:

  • micro cement (waterproof when sealed properly);
  • tadelakt (easy to waterproof);
  • Venetian Facade (for showers and saunas);
  • Pastellone (for bathrooms and saunas);
  • liquid metal (waterproof).

Each needs a sound, correctly prepared wall behind it. Choose by look, by which zone it goes in, and by whether the floor should match.

Micro Cement: Seamless From Floor to Ceiling

Colortale's micro cement is waterproof when sealed properly and suits bathrooms and showers. It also adheres to tiles, so an old tiled bathroom can often be refinished without breaking the tiles out. It can run across the floor, walls and vanity in one surface. See microcement bathroom.

Tadelakt: The Traditional Shower Plaster

Tadelakt is a Moroccan lime plaster trowelled to a smooth satin finish. Colortale says it is easy to waterproof, making it suitable for bathrooms, shower walls and steam rooms. A 100% natural "Green Line" version uses hydrated lime, marble powders and other natural agents, with no chemicals. See tadelakt bathroom.

Venetian Facade: Polished Lime for Showers

Venetian Facade is a hydraulic lime Venetian plaster that Colortale describes as suitable for interior wet areas such as saunas and showers. It gives a seamless, satined look with protection against mould and algae. More in Venetian plaster in bathrooms.

Pastellone: One Finish for Floor, Walls and Vanity

Pastellone combines the Pastellone Veneziano tradition with modern technique. Colortale lists it for floors, walls, stairs and wet areas like bathrooms and saunas, as well as worktops, for a continuous, smooth, lightly matt finish.

Liquid Metal: Real Metal Accents

Liquid metal applies an ultra-thin layer of real metal. Colortale says it is waterproof and suitable for bathrooms, showers, countertops and walls. It works best as an accent: a vanity wall, niche or counter.

What About Limewash in a Bathroom?

Keep limewash out of showers and splash zones. It is breathable and lovely on walls away from water, such as a powder room or the dry end of a large bathroom, but it is not waterproof and does not take scrubbing. See is limewash waterproof. Ordinary emulsion paint is not suited to showers either.

What Goes Behind the Finish?

Any tile-free bathroom depends on a sound, dry, correctly prepared wall, and on a shower floor that falls to the drain. Ask your applicator what waterproofing goes behind the decorative finish in the shower zone.
