Can Venetian Plaster Be Used in a Bathroom?

Yes, with the right product in each zone. On walls away from direct water, choose a finish suited to the room and keep it well ventilated. In showers and saunas, use a finish made for wet areas. Colortale's Venetian Facade is a hydraulic lime-based plaster described as suitable for interior wet areas such as saunas and showers, with added protection against mould and algae and a satined look.

What About Inside the Shower?

Choose a wet-area plaster and get the base right. Behind any decorative finish in a shower, the wall should be properly waterproofed, and the floor needs correct falls to the drain. Alternatives for showers are tadelakt, the Moroccan lime plaster with a satin finish (see tadelakt bathroom), and sealed microcement (see microcement bathroom).

Which Finish for Which Zone?

For powder rooms with no shower, any finish from our Venetian plaster feature walls page can work.

Is Venetian Plaster Waterproof?

Not in itself. Lime plasters are water-resistant once cured and protected, and they stay breathable, which helps them release moisture. Waterproofing in a shower comes from the system: the base, the product choice and the protective finish.

Does It Get Mould?

Lime's high pH naturally resists mould, and Venetian Facade is described as having excellent protection against mould and algae. Good ventilation still matters: run an exhaust fan and let the room dry between showers.

How Do You Care for It?

Dust or wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap; avoid acidic limescale removers and abrasive pads. Squeegee shower walls after use. Colortale describes Venetian Facade as low maintenance, needing only minimal cleaning and upkeep (Venetian Facade).
